Before we are born into this physical life, we are given the task of setting out the framework for our coming incarnation. Depending upon our personal level of Karma, our chosen interests, natural skills and general level of spiritual awareness we formulate what is commonly known as a Sacred Contract.
What is this contract and how do we discover for ourselves what has been pre-established by us in this lifetime?

In many ways, our Sacred Contract is a type of promise, or commitment, that states that once we are down here we will spend our lives dedicated towards the fulfilment of specific goals and aims.
Once we are born, the contract becomes binding upon us – but in ways that we are completely unaware of.
Free Will Vs Destiny
A great deal is talked about whether as human beings we live lives that have been pre-ordained or whether we pass through it completely exercising total free-will.
For most of us, the truth is found somewhere between these two poles for, even though we enter life somewhat free to do as we wish, all of our actions are set against the back drop of our previously defined contractural agreement.
Contractural Agreement
The Sacred Contract that we create is, of course, made with a higher conscious state of ourselves. Some call this aspect of ourselves the Higher Self, the Soul, the Guardian Angel or the Overself.
The role that this part of yourself takes on is the same regardless of how you choose to refer to it. In short, It oversees the successful completion of our contract within our given time-frame.
For the most part, we are, in any given physical lifetime, completely ignorant of this higher aspect to ourselves and of the important part that it plays in keeping us on track to fulfil our spiritual destiny.
It can, and does, appear to us in dreams and occasionally reveals itself when we are in a deep state of meditation. However, most of the time, it leaves us alone to get on with things, acting in terms not dissimilar to the role of a line-prompter in a dramatic production.
On occasions, it would be so useful to be able to contact that all-knowing aspect of ourselves for help and guidance on personal issues or problems.
Times of difficulty and challenge – at times when important decision have to be made with dramatic outcomes to any line of action, requires us to have a broader insight not only into the issues involved but also of the consequences of our actions with regard to the contract that we are trying to fulfill.
Contacting the Higher Self
There are many different ways to approach the task of making contact with the Higher Self – some rather less straight forward than others.
In this regard, I am reminded of the medieval manuscript known as The Book of Abramelin. This ancient book tells the story of an Egyptian mage called Abramelin who taught a system of magic to Abraham of Worms – a German Jew.
This esoteric text describes a complex magical ritual that enables the practisioner to obtain ‘knowledge and conversation’ with their Guardian Angel.
The actual method, as outlined by Abramelin, is complex, challenging and extended. So much so in fact that it generally takes 18 months to initiate that first all-important contact, during which time the initiate must pray twice a day, once at sunrise and once at sunset, observe chastity, avoid alcohol and maintain the highest personal morals throughout.
Just the work involved in creating exactly the right ritual environment is enough to put most sane people off doing it. Aleister Crowley did take up the challenge which led directly to his making contact over three days with his Higher Self whilst on holiday in Cairo in 1904.
Other methods have been used in the past to varying degrees of success. These include complete solitude with vows of silence, committed prayer and religious devotion.
For today’s average spiritual seeker, none of these options are really very practical but there is one approach to making contact with your Higher Self that has gone unknown for many years.
Once you understand this process, it means that any of us, at any time, can make contact with the spiritual forces that support us from behind the scenes as we go about our daily lives.
Fulfilling Your Contract
Let’s return to the idea of the Sacred Contract for a moment if we may.
As we have already seen, the contract that we make is a sort of guideline to our actions, choices and decisions that we make whilst on planet Earth. The reason for having a contract at all in the first place is really rather simple: it provides us with a framework by which we can gain greatest advantage from life experience by transforming each and every aspect of our time here into a spiritual context. Thus, by aiding our spiritual beings’ to expand and grow, we are adding to the totality of who we are at all levels of being.
The Sacred Contract is indeed an agreement that we make and which we are bound to in this incarnation, however the door does swing both ways. The Soul aspect of ourselves seeks the ability to experience physical life and strives at all times to be brought into a working awareness of this mundane existance. The question is What do we do to make a link, or connection between our ego consciousness and the Highest Aspect of ourselves?
Short of following some variation of the Abramelin trial, this appears not to be an easy question to answer. However, what we fail to understand, but would do if our Sacred Contract was printed out and placed in front of us, is that there is a small clause within it that deals specifically with this issue.
Revealing Your Sacred Contract
The Ankh is a very powerful tool that you can use to unlock your Soul and reveal your true purpose in this lifetime.
Whilst still negotiating our Sacred Contracts in our pre-natal state, we are given a specific code, key or tool that has the expressed function of acting as the lever that allows us to make that all-important connection between our mundane and supernal aspects of our being.
The form that this key takes varies dramatically from person to person. It is not that there is only one key per individual and that key cannot be used by anyone else however it is not all that common to come across others during our lifetime with the same key – unless we are fortunate to actually meet up with our Soul mates.
This key holds the secret to opening the channels between our physical and mundane consciousness and the all-knowing aspect of our Higher Natures. It is not always made available to us down here on Earth but under certain circumstances we are contacted, usually through sleep, dreams or meditation, by our Souls and this key is then given to us so that we can consciously work with it on the Earth plane.
In the majority of cases, this key takes on the form of a symbol or glyph. It is generally simple in construction and easily recognisable for what it is.
This key holds the secret to opening the channels between our physical and mundane consciousness and the all-knowing aspect of our Higher Natures. It is not always made available to us down here on Earth but under certain circumstances we are contacted, usually through sleep, dreams or meditation, by our Souls and this key is then given to us so that we can consciously work with it on the Earth plane.
It can appear to us out of the blue – like a flash of light of insight, or gradually by revealing itself to us time and again in our lives…. nagging and cajoling us until we take notice of its existence.
